I celebrate Asklepios is a Hero, not a God, but I also see him as a manifestation, an avatar, of the great Olympian God Apollo.

Myth has it that Asklepios was born the son of Apollo by a mortal woman. Taught the art of healing, he soon became the world's greatest doctor. He became so good at the arts of medicine that he dicovered the art of reviving the dead, and upon seeing this the great father Zeus was forced to kill him, for he was breaking through the boundaries that man was not meant to cross.

As such, I see him as the avatar of Apollo, for I believe there was a man named Asklepios (or something similar to that) who sought to teach mankind that he has the power to heal, to medicate, to make life better for himself. As such, I think of him in much the same way as the Hindus see Krishna, as a manifestation of a divine force, in this case the God Apollo. Because of this, Asklepios is a divine avatar or hero, and should receive the honors and celebrations that such a man deserves.
